5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent all around CBT book for therapists.
I like the ongoing case study with Sally that Dr. Beck uses to demonstrate how to effectively implement CBT in the therapy setting.

This book is a great manual for therapists who use CBT. The book teaches therapists how to strengthen and/or repair the therapeutic alliance, how to identify, evaluate and modify automatic thoughts, intermediate beliefs and core beliefs. The biggest strength of the book is that it helps therapists structure and pace each session alongside providing a wide array of interventions for almost all possible situations. I will certainly be referring back to this book throughout my career. Thank you Dr Beck!

This book is great. It provides a step by step guide on using CBT in therapy. There are activity sheets and dialogues showing how to use CBT with clients. Some of the examples may be a bit unrealistic as there is little conflict potrayed. This book is also easy to read and comprehend which is great when one has a lot to read for class.

Fantastic read. This is the fundamental authority in the realm of CT. For adept readers looking for insights of CBT, this is a great tool. I would suggest pairing this book with individual studies and meta-analyses of CT's effectiveness in different mental health realms. Top university clinical programs in mental health research and instruction utilize this book. Judith's father Aaron still teaches at Penn. GO QUAKERS!

This is a great book to learn more skills when working with clients. The case study that is used throughout the book allows a flow between all of the chapters and helps highlight how the various techniques can be used with a single client. This book is for anyone who is wanting to learn or get a refresher on how to use CBT with their clients.

I had the basic understanding of CBT, with my grounding in Person-Centered and Adlerian theories. This book provided the necessary "training" that I needed to enhance my knowledge of CBT. It is written for a clinician, and provides the perfect balance of theory and practice, even offering a workbook-type feel. Using one client's experience throughout the book was a great move. I enjoyed reading this book and use it as a reference in my practice..

I purchased this book for my Cognitive Behavior psychology class. I think the book is excellent as an introduction to CBT. There are clear examples in the book from Judith Beck herself, who happens to be the daughter of Aaron Beck, the father of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Wanting to eventually practice using CBT myself I have decided to keep this book around even after the class ended as a resource. It is easy to understand and really gives a clear picture of CBT and what it is all about.

In all fairness I'm only on the fifth chapter, but the book is well-written and reads easy. I'm hoping this helps me when I start my internship in August. I think Beck was dead-on with automatic thoughts and the behaviors that follow. This technique can be helpful across a multitude of problems and the book can help the professional be better at just that.

I love how detailed this book is while it goes over the basics of CBT. It's a really easy read. I wish there was one for all the DSM diagnoses. It really goes into details of specific techniques like the downward arrow, rational-emotional role play, evidence testing etc, and there's a lot of scripts of real session to illustrate them. I also love that with in the book, there are exerts about "what if" the client does or doesn't do this or that, which is really helpful for beginners to address all the different responses that clients can have to the techniques in treatment.
